What do Ralph Waldo Emerson, Eleanor Roosevelt, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and SMS have in common? We have all spent some time in Brunswick’s First Parish Church.
From Joshua Chamberlain’s wedding, to Ulysses S. Grant’s honorary degree ceremony after the civil war, to Harriet Beecher Stowe’s vision of a death of a slave—a pivotal moment in Uncle Tom’s Cabin—First Parish has been home to some historical moments. SMS had the honor of modernizing the space’s sound system and working with the church to find new ways to reach today’s parishioners.
With a congregation established in 1717, the current church was built in 1845, designed by Richard Upjohn in the gothic revival style, complete with trancepts. To match aesthetics and meet the technical challenges of a cross-shaped building, SMS designed and installed a fully distributed audio system.
To meet their congregation where they are, First Parish really needed a modern way to connect remotely. SMS supported their vision through a pair of projectors and a full camera streaming system, bringing professional-quality production value to weekly services and special events.
